Grupo Vocal Olisipo (named after the Latin name of the city of Lisbon) began its activity in 1987. The group's repertoire is quite wide and eclectic, from sacred and secular early music to contemporary works. Ch. Bochmann, I. Moody, B. Chilcott, L. Tinoco, E. Carrapatoso, V. Mendonça, M.P. Ferreira, A.V. d’Almeida – these are some of the contemporary composers who have dedicated their works to the group. The group has participated in master classes led by The King’s Singers and Hilliard Ensemble, among others. In 1995, the group received a distinction in the Portuguese Youth Music Competition and was a finalist in the Concorso Polifonico Internazionale "Guido d’Arezzo", taking second place and receiving the highest artistic evaluation. The ensemble also won first prizes at competitions in Varna (Bulgaria), Tampere (Finland), Gorizia and Riva del Garda (Italy). The ensemble has performed in Belgium, Bulgaria, Finland, France, Spain, Canada, Germany, Poland, Great Britain and Italy. The ensemble has recorded several albums – the latest of which was released in 2020 and focuses on the Portuguese tradition of church music from the 16th to the 19th century.
