Academic Choir of the West Pomeranian University of Technology named after prof. Jan Szyrocki in Szczecin named after prof. Jan Szyrocki in Szczecin was founded in 1952 by the then student of the Szczecin University of Technology, later professor - Jan Szyrocki, who until the end of his life held the position of artistic director and conductor of the choir. In a short time, the ensemble became one of the best academic choirs in Poland. It proved this at festivals and choral competitions both in Poland and abroad, gaining increasing recognition and numerous artistic trophies. Since 1959, the choir has given concerts in over eighty countries on four continents. The ensemble performs music from the Middle Ages and the Renaissance to spirituals and folk songs of various nations. It is often invited to the first performances of works by contemporary Polish composers, such as Krzysztof Penderecki, Romuald Twardowski and Marek Jasiński. In 2014, the choir took part in the inaugural concert of the new seat of the Szczecin Philharmonic, performing fragments of Marek Jasiński's symphony In principio. The choir has performed at the International Organ and Chamber Music Festival in Kamień Pomorski since its inception, also performing during its jubilee fiftieth edition in 2014.
Szymon Wyrzykowski studied at the Szczecin branch of the Academy of Music in Poznań (with prof. Jan Szyrocki) and at the Fryderyk Chopin Academy of Music in Warszawa (with prof. Antoni Wit). He conducted, among others, the Akademia Orchestra, the Baltic Neopolis Orchestra and musicians from the philharmonics in Częstochowa, Szczecin, Katowice and Kielce. In the 2006/2007 season, he took up the position of conductor and artistic director of the Prof. Jan Szyrocki Academic Choir, with which he gave concerts all over the world. In 2010 and 2012, he won the award for best conductor, winning choral competitions with the ensemble. Together with the choir, he undertook to record the complete works of Marek Jasiński.
